On the road again


Tuesday April 20, Happy Birthday to our oldest daughter Stephanie 🎉
We spent the night at the Langtry Post Office, don’t worry we bought stamps and mailed some post cards, we hope you get yours. 
 
Conveniently across the street is the Judge Roy Bean Museum and Visitors Center.  Run by the state of Texas, no admission fee and beautifully maintained.

 
Judge Roy Bean was infamous for his humor and crazy verdicts and restitutions.  John knows him because of the Western Movies.  Apparently his heart throb was the gorgeous Lilly Langtry whom the town was named after.  That’s her on the left...no no the right.  

 
Equally impressive were the gardens...love the round (look closely) forgot the name cylinder daffodil tree???  The horse crippler, a low growing barrel cactus that horses and people step on...ouch!

About 8 reasons not to visit Texas...and whatever it is ...it is BIG..I am sorry the Texas bumble bees I see do not land or be still enough for a picture (like my grandson).  They are the hugest scariest insect.

All this years...I did not know this meant “Do Not Litter” hmmm...that is why Texas is so clean..it is rare we see trash anywhere, on the freeway, rivers...no empty McDonald’s bags in the parking lot. Good for Texas!

Amistad National Recreation Area.  Never heard of it.   Amistad “friendship” in Spanish is on the US - Mexico border.  These 2 countries cooperated in building and maintaining the dam.  The reservoir has 540 miles of shoreline.....we only used about 1/4 mile.


Great camp spot at Governors Landing.  $5 with our senior discount.  Getting ready to head to the water.


A little bit of a hike to the water...lots of succulents in bloom.

Gorgeous day, the water is a little cool...but nice 80 degree outside temp.  I’ll stay on the blanket.

Nice floatie....picked it up at the last Walmart stop. I did put my toes in, actually up to my knees.
Yes we have done nothing all day..let’s eat some more! You may not recognize us when we get back.  

No trash but lots of road kill, a western rattlesnake (that John ran over..couldn’t help it, a Javelin and this unidentifiable specimen...but then look at how many were fed.  The food chain.  
Tomorrow...the Texas Air Museum!

 Day One…first, it has been yearsss since writing a blog and using this site,  Already there is a pencil icon in my way of typing, what is up with that!!! Does it really matter

 Really, I am not going to change it or try and fix it, that would require sending another link and confusing everyone especially me!  So the name of the Blog was suppose to be “Heads Carolina, tails California and then you have a title for each post.  Well I wondered where the “one mile at a time aka you never know when you’ll breakdown”came from.  Apparently I opened up an existing blog and just added to it,  well, that title could be any of our trips so it is staying!  Now I am really going to bed, we plan on leaving around 8 am tomorrow Monday March 9.  I downloaded the APP so I hope that helps, I see I am having difficulty with picture placement…by the end of August I should have it down! Did someone say Friday the 13th?

​where to start…  Gas buddy directed us to a gas station in Abilene, Texas that was $3.15 a gallon just off the freeway and there was a Walmart perfect! We need yogurt creamer, and M&Ms💕 it all seemed perfect, especially when we saw the Brahms ice cream store over the hood of this guy‘s truck,(for those of you not familiar with Brahms ice cream, It is the best but it’s only in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and may be a handful of othet state states.) then we noticed the sign that they were out of unleaded gas🥲 we went in anyways and got our three items in a store that we don’t think anyone looked happy glad to be out and over to Brahms John got a sundae I didn’t feel like ice cream I got a fry. It was OK. GasBuddy leads us to another gas station for $3.49 it was supposed to be $3.19 and everywhere else in Abilene is 3.19. we’re in a motorhome at 7 miles a gallon a few blocks we find the $3.15  gas, perfect!
