Stumbling into an adventure

We made it!

On our big adventure down the Rio Grande!
A little shallow... A lot muddy.  We’re doing the boomerang paddle up river turning around and coming back 13 miles.
Well we made it about 4 miles.  The river bottoms a little rocky so when you’re walking it can be slippery.
Some of us fell in.  We made a little camp with our very nice kayaking chairs thank you Carson and Nancy💕
Played some backgammon.. ate all our food; contemplating what we should do next.
Well John contemplated with his eyes closed I went around the next bend just to see and this is what I saw.  If you look really close you can see people traversing at the corner of the mountain on the right.  This is the mouth of the Santa Elena Canyon.  What we were really looking for and thought where we were going.. but didn’t think we would make it because at the end of 4 miles we were done.
Well John got a second wind so we went over and actually did the hike up that mountain.  One of the problems with his old man shoes he thought these would be good river shoes.... not.

Then we went back and got the kayaks, some more paddling and some more walking, we made it to the canyon!

The water level was perfect inside the canyon the walls were tall and the view breathtaking.  The walls provided great shade and a fun paddle in and out of the canyon. The picture is actually from the water a reflection of the canyon.

Actually now John is pulling me and I’m pulling his kayak what a guy!

Some flowers from our mountain hike.
Some plant markers from our hike up the mountain.  We have very little Internet I’m doing the blog from my phone so the pictures aren’t exactly in the best order.
The Hechtia plant is actually part of the pineapple family.

Heading back to her motorhome to turkey Vultures waiting for John.
Then we heard this bell ringing and it’s a herd of goats which you can see in the bushes and they’re on the Mexico side.  John thinks their shepherd just comes and checks on him once in a while but let them freely graze.
