Wild horses couldn’t keep us away!

Sunday April 18 we are riding our bikes from the campground to Boquillas Canyon about 25 miles round trip, not so bad with our electric bikes 😬

A horse jam....wild horses on the rode, it’s like Yellowstone when someone sees a bear...
or even thinks they see a bear, everyone stops.

So cool seeing animals in the wild.  It is hard to see but there is a baby between the mommy and daddy.
We stop...sort of...it says closed ...does that mean us?  This is the border crossing.  In the non covid times you can hire a donkey for $5 for trip to the Mexican town of Boquillas, yes you must have your passport. No we did not go (apparently it is the Mexican Gov’t who closed this border....not wanting US citizens bringing covid to them; they do not have the medical resources to combat the virus). That was the info given us by the visitor center...you can decide.

Hmmmm ..what is this?  Old man candy wrapper...the same that John eats.  I am happy to report it was not John’s, some other old man dropped his wrapper, I was happy to pick it up for him 🙂

“ Exhibit Ahead”.  .....weird terminology For a historical marker. Those are the signs throughout the park when there is something to see.

The exhibit is an abandoned silver, zinc and lead ore mine.  From Mexico to the Ernst Valley 4 six mile long cables were strung between wooden towers carrying 90 buckets (see picture, not lightweight plastic) at a time, 7 tons of ore per hour!  It only operated for 4 years...hmmm have to jgi later.  The cables are still here...sorry no picture, they were thick braided wire.
Well the mules stop traffic too! These were friendly mules....one came across the street and wanted me to pet him...so fun..so I gave him an apple, well not my apple...John’s apple.  He really liked it and I liked my apple too!  John got a butterfinger at the store.

Lock up the bikes honey....we are hiking to Boquillas Canyon...it’s not long, you can do it!

Totally worth it...beautiful water, turquoise blue..not like the muddy water on the west side.

It looks like it ends....we can walk in the water and go over to that sandy beach, who cares if our shoes and  socks get all wet.  I guess we do, that isn’t us, it is some other adventurous couple.

Hurry...we have to hike up the hill and get the last sunset picture before we leave.

Shadows right....hurry
The Rio Grande is wild and scenic...we will see tomorrow when we take another kayak trip.  Thanks so much for coming with us, we hope you are having a good time. We have been blessed with good health and no breakdowns.   We thank God for His protection 💕
