“ it’s the real thing”

Finally, we are out of Texas five days, not that we’re in a hurry🙂 so far Louisiana is great! $2.98 for gas today, we got 52 gallons in our 50 gallon tank. I guess that’s cutting it a little close!

After listening to the acquired podcast about the history of Coca-Cola,(4hours) we visited the Biedenharn Coke museum in Monroe, Louisiana. It was a three part tour, one of the Coke museum one of the Biedenfarn home and a Bible museum. In addition, they’re a harvest host so we are spending the night in their parking lot.


Our wonderful tour guide wasn’t a day under 90 and full of  interesting information, especially the history of the Coke bottle was fascinating.  


The home was built in 1913 by the first bottler of Coca-Cola Joe Biedenhorn. You’ll have to listen to the podcast to understand the difference between selling the Coca-Cola product and the bottling. They were two different entities.. The home was considered a mansion and filled like a museum.


This is a picture of the docent and an orchestra box from the 1800’s one of 6 in the world. The clock had one dial for time and one for the date. The only daughter was Emmy Lou Birdenharn who was an opera singer, who never married and left her fortune to the city of Monroe to establish this home as a museum and since the estate has purchased the other three houses on the street to house the Bible museum, a wedding venue and gardens. 


The bi attraction was that for five cents you could buy a bottle of Coke😋




Then a nice bike ride up and down the river before dinner.  There were some Pickleball courts nearby, but we didn’t think we could beat them!

On Tuesday, we’re going to the world of Coca-Cola in Atlanta, Georgia for John’s birthday.  I sure hope they have a Coca-Cola category on Jeopardy soon.🙂

    With all your knowledge on Coca-Cola bottling and Coca-Cola manufacturing I sure hope you'll be on team Bob.
    Nate says a great blog on history is called History on Fire and he thought you would really enjoy it if you're not already getting information off of it.

 Day One…first, it has been yearsss since writing a blog and using this site,  Already there is a pencil icon in my way of typing, what is up with that!!! Does it really matter

 Really, I am not going to change it or try and fix it, that would require sending another link and confusing everyone especially me!  So the name of the Blog was suppose to be “Heads Carolina, tails California and then you have a title for each post.  Well I wondered where the “one mile at a time aka you never know when you’ll breakdown”came from.  Apparently I opened up an existing blog and just added to it,  well, that title could be any of our trips so it is staying!  Now I am really going to bed, we plan on leaving around 8 am tomorrow Monday March 9.  I downloaded the APP so I hope that helps, I see I am having difficulty with picture placement…by the end of August I should have it down! Did someone say Friday the 13th?

​where to start…  Gas buddy directed us to a gas station in Abilene, Texas that was $3.15 a gallon just off the freeway and there was a Walmart perfect! We need yogurt creamer, and M&Ms💕 it all seemed perfect, especially when we saw the Brahms ice cream store over the hood of this guy‘s truck,(for those of you not familiar with Brahms ice cream, It is the best but it’s only in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and may be a handful of othet state states.) then we noticed the sign that they were out of unleaded gas🥲 we went in anyways and got our three items in a store that we don’t think anyone looked happy glad to be out and over to Brahms John got a sundae I didn’t feel like ice cream I got a fry. It was OK. GasBuddy leads us to another gas station for $3.49 it was supposed to be $3.19 and everywhere else in Abilene is 3.19. we’re in a motorhome at 7 miles a gallon a few blocks we find the $3.15  gas, perfect!
